We are expecting frost tonight. Do I need to cover my plants?

I have Clematis, daylillies, hostas, tulips and they are looking great. We are expecting frost tonight and Im worried that it may kill some of my plants. Does anyone know if these types of plants need covered if we are expecting a frost?? Im new at gardening and am not sure. Thanks !

I heard that if you get frost you should spray water on the leaves before the sun hits the leaves. They will be ok because the frost washes off and the sun doesn't burn the leaves!

Also, I have saved old boxes because I can just pop them over the plants to protect them from hail and frost!
Reply:All of the plants that you listed are pretty tough plants. If they are up close to your home they should be o.k. uncovered. However, the frost is tough on a lilac bush
Reply:I would cover them with an old sheet or even boxes just to keep them protected.
Reply:Yes you should cover them.
Reply:a frost wont kill your plants, but it may cause dieback. i would cover them all
