Do I leave last year's "dead" growth or trim it back? Last year I left it and only got flowers on the very top. Will it grow back if I trim it down to a foot or so of last year's growth?
Same question for a butterfly bush....
Thanks for your help!
Jackmani Clematis question?
This type of clematis flowers on new wood as a opposed to last year's growth so you can trim it back as much as you like. I prefer to trim mine back to about a foot above the ground.
With the butterfly bush, you can trim down last year's growth as well.
Reply:I would trim back the dead growth.
